
How to Boost Up Your Child’s Immune System
A Healthy Diet
- Encourage your child to “eat the rainbow” when it comes to fruits and vegetable.
- A healthy diet should also include fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, dairy or calcium source, and healthy fats.
Some tips to make your child love fruits and vegetables:
- Shop together and have fun activities- parents can have grocery shopping with your child, carry out some fun food activities, and even create green smoothies and popsicles with some fruits.
- Making food fun and interesting for your child will increases the likelihood that
they will have a nutritious diet.
Adequate Sleep
- The immune system will break down no matter what you put into your body if you are not getting enough hours of restful sleep or have an inconsistent sleeping schedule.
- Make sure you and your child get enough sleep including proper nap times according to their age.
Exercise Regularly
- Being physically active can improve your immunity and decrease the likelihood of getting sick. Families can choose to participate in activities together, such as taking a walk in the park or going for a bike ride, to create healthy habits for their children.
Drink Water
- Drinking enough water will keep your body hydrated. Hydration is necessary for the production of white blood cells. These cells are crucial for fighting off infections. In addition to that, drinking plenty of water can help to flush toxins from your body, which also help keep your immune system functioning well.
- Hydrating Food: there are food that contribute large amount of water in our diet
(watermelon, strawberries, cantaloupe, zucchini, peach, lettuce, tomatoes etc).
Tips to get your child to drink more water:
(a) Provide your child with their own special drinking cup.
(b) Plain water is the best! Choose water instead of sugar-sweetened beverages.
(c) Use frozen fruits instead of ice cubes.
(d) Be a role model and drink water often with your child.
(e) Infuse your water with flavour by adding fruits like berries, cucumbers, lemons and limes.
(f) Add berries to your homemade ice cubes so that you can add it into your child’s water.
(g) Buy tiny water bottles that your child can hold by themselves.
Good Hygiene
- Teach your child the importance of washing their hands regularly — especially before eating and after using the toilet.
- Germs can spread easily, so it is helpful to teach your child to sneeze into a tissue and to cover their mouth when they cough.
